Have you ever considered having a copper kitchen? Or a copper dining tabletop?
This year we have had to adapt our lives to the new reality of constant hand washing and cleaning of all the surfaces in our homes in an attempt to kill coronavirus that we may have picked up whilst outside doing our daily grocery shop or just by having our loved ones over for coffee. Antibacterial sprays and gels have become our daily necessity to guard us against Covid-19.
However, did you know that metals like silver and copper have intrinsic antibacterial properties, meaning that in as little as two hours 99.9% of bacteria and viruses on these surfaces will be destroyed. Historically both metals have been used to store and purify water. Many studies over the years have been done on the effects of copper and its alloys (brass & bronze) on microbes and viruses, and results have shown that 99.9% of microbes including MSRA & E.coli were killed within two hours of being on the copper surface. Copper, brass, and bronze are very rich beautiful materials in their own right and come in many finishes, probably to many to start listing out on here. When left in natural unfinished state these metals will develop a patina over time creating beautiful ever-changing organic patterns.
Just some of the finishes we use in our projects.
Bronze is a great accent meal to achieve modern sophistication, brass will add a touch of glamour to your home, and copper will bring in an artistic cool vibe to your Piede-a-Terre. These metals are timeless and you can not go wrong with using them around your home.
Some of the most obvious objects you can have in these metals will be your door furniture, light switches and sockets, however there are a lot more interesting ways in using these finishes and we love to help our clients explore these directions. Just imagine in a kitchen that does not get much light having a worktop and a backsplash in brass or copper it will brighten the whole space up adding a sparkle effect. Or if you are looking to update your living room without changing much but want to liven it up, have one of these metals veneered onto your furniture cupboard doors it will really transform the room. If you would like to brainstorm other ideas please do not hesitate to get in touch with us, we would love to help you transform your space.
